Catalog description

At the completion of this course, the student should be proficient in the application of pharmacotherapy to the disease states reviewed in this course. Furthermore, students should be able to utilize knowledge of pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, and pharmaceutics principles to improve patient outcomes for these disease states. Each learning outcome will be assessed using an assessment strategy appropriate to the level of learning. Teaching and learning methods will involve self-assessment of knowledge, active learning, case studies, and simulations to foster active, life-long learning. This is an integrated course designed to enable students to understand the pathophysiology of cardiovascular and renal diseases, and to apply chemical, biochemical, pharmacological and pharmacotherapeutic principles in making sound therapeutic decisions in the management of actual patients with these diseases. PHBM 432 is a prerequisite for PHBM 437.
