Catalog description

At the completion of this course, the student should be proficient in the application of pharmacotherapy strategies of psychiatric and neurologic illnesses. The etiology, presentation, assessment, and treatment strategies for these disease processes are addressed, and therapeutic issues such as patient compliance and outcomes are emphasized. Furthermore, students should be able to utilize knowledge of pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, and pharmaceutics principles to improve patient outcomes for these disease states. Each learning outcome will be assessed using an assessment strategy appropriate to the level of learning. Teaching and learning methods will involve self-assessment of knowledge, active learning, case studies, literature review, and/or simulations to foster active, life-long learning. PHBM 431 is a prerequisite for PHPR 443, PHBM 443 and PHBM 444.
