Catalog description

This course builds upon the foundations and concepts discussed in the Infectious Disease I course. The microbiology of fungi and viruses is discussed along with the chemical, pharmacological, and therapeutic aspects of antifungal and antiviral drug therapy. Integration of these topics with pharmacotherapeutic principles is designed to enable students to make therapeutic decisions in the treatment of infectious bacterial, fungal and viral diseases. When applicable, the public health significance of these organisms, their modes of transmission and means of prevention and control will be discussed. This course utilizes a variety of presentation styles, including lectures, case study discussions, and computer-based educational activities. PHBM 419 is a prerequisite for PHPR 443, PHBM 443 and PHBM 444.
