Basic and Applied Immunology

Catalog description

This course equips pharmacy students with the ability to explain the key concepts of the human immune system and extrapolate the basic framework to relevant disease states. By the course?s end, students will possess a mechanistic insight into immunological diseases and immunotherapies. Immune cells, molecules, and organs are organized into the interactive networks of innate and adaptive mechanisms and functional consequences in inflammation, autoimmunity, allergic reactions, and host response to pathogens. Clinical scenarios of selected immunological conditions will be discussed. Modern platforms of immunomodulation including monoclonal antibodies and subunit vaccines will be presented.
