Catalog description

In this immersive study abroad course, we will experience the rich heritage of Irish music in many ways. This includes listening to live performances and recordings of traditional music; playing traditional Irish instruments such as the bodhrán and tin whistle; dancing céilí (traditional Irish dance); singing traditional folk songs; discussing and analyzing performance practices; and reading about the history and culture of what is globally recognized as ?Traditional Irish Music?. Local experts will enrich our studies whenever possible. Along the way, regular journal entries will help you reflect on your growth; which will culminate in a self-designed musical research project that engages with Irish music in a musically rich manner.
