Catalog description

This course explores musical theatre performance through an integrated study of vocal technique and performance practice. Through active participation in workshop-style activities, students will engage the primary stylistic, musical, and dramatic characteristics found in early American Musical Theatre. Students will develop a personal book of repertoire while building foundational skills in breathing, alignment, and healthy vocal production. Emphasis is placed on acting the song ? considering how text, music, and character situations advance story and reveal intentions with truth and authenticity. Students will have the opportunity each week to workshop techniques, in a collaborative and supportive environment, and prepare a final cabaret performance. Ultimately, this course seeks to develop students? practical skills in musical theatre performance, helping them become more confident and effective performers.
