Catalog description

Instrumental conducting will address the application of intermediate and advanced conducting techniques with emphasis on subdivision, accent and syncopation, subito dynamic changes, tempo alteration, tenuto and fermata, asymmetrical meters, supermetrics, and specialized techniques for conducting accompaniments, contemporary music, and musical theater. Course will include in-depth score analysis and preparation, as well as techniques and methods while focusing on the standard literature. Class time will be divided equally between lecture-demonstrations and practical experience in a laboratory setting.
