Catalog description

Guitar For Music Education will provide future Music Educators with fundamental guitar technique for use in the general music classroom and provide resource material for middle school or high school guitar classes. Students will develop instrumental skills enabling the performance of chordal accompaniments using open and moveable chord forms and single string melodies in first position. Participants will develop personal and group accompaniment techniques in a variety of functional musical styles. Students will develop song performance, presentation, teaching and leadership skills, master eurythmic backgrounds in multiple meters and employ applied harmonic theory to aide in song analysis and the creation of original accompaniments. Additionally, students will develop a working repertoire of selections appropriate for the music class room from elementary through secondary levels. Finally, students will learn basic guitar care and maintenance including critical repair techniques.
