Catalog description

Elementary and Middle School General Music Methods prepares future music educators to provide children in upper elementary and middle school, grades 3?8, with a comprehensive general music education. This course will build upon concepts and skills developed in Primary General Music Methods. The Orff-Schulwerk approach, the Kodály method, and other approaches and methodologies will continue to be incorporated into course demonstrations, participation, lesson planning, and practice-teaching. Musicianship skills and concepts will be applied to teaching. Additional topics include World Music Drumming, ukulele, and improvisation/composition in the classroom. Field experiences will take place in public school settings throughout the semester.
