Sustainability Consulting Experience

Catalog description

Designated as an Advanced Community Engaged Learning (ACEL) course, this experience uses a structured, project-based instructional model that emphasizes the effective management of financial, social, and environmental resources through applied frameworks and methods. Building on approaches introduced in MGMT 712 Human Centered Design, students work in teams to apply context-mapping, problem-framing, and design thinking methodologies to audit client operations, evaluate strategic alternatives, and manage projects from initiation through delivery. Instruction is scaffolded through milestone-based engagement, with clients participating at project launch to shape scope and expectations, at midpoints to provide feedback and refine direction, and at completion to evaluate final recommendations. Assessment is integrated throughout the process and includes iterative deliverables, participation, and final outputs, including a professional presentation and analytical report that demonstrate learners? ability to generate evidence-based insights and actionable strategies. Evaluation incorporates input from stakeholders in a structured debrief that reinforces collaborative problem-solving, reflective practice, and the realities of professional consulting.
