Catalog description

This course explores the intersection of business ethics, legal frameworks, and sustainability, providing students with the knowledge and skills to navigate these critical areas in a business context. These three domains of sustainable business practice are framed around ?wicked problems? facing business. Thus, the course explores the intersectionality of the domains in accordance with a long-term going concern for a business. Students will learn to apply legal principles to effectively manage contracts and other obligations and to minimize vulnerabilities. Ethical decision-making frameworks will be applied to effectively and sustainably manage stakeholder relationships. And students will learn best practices to balance economic growth, environmental health, and social well-being without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. As Duquesne University is a signatory of the United Nations (UN) Principles of Responsible Education (PRME), the course is closely tied to the Sustainable Development Goals and the UN Global Compact. The course uses lectures, case studies, group projects, and discussions to create an interactive learning environment, preparing students to make informed, ethical, and sustainable business decisions.
