Hematology and Immunology

Catalog description

The Hematology and Immunology course is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to care for patients in their journey to better health. Students will learn relevant anatomy, biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, physiology, pharmacology, and pathology. Foundational knowledge will be applied in expanding student understanding of the epidemiology, pathologic basis of disease, clinical presentation, diagnostic workup, treatment and prevention of conditions and diseases of the hematologic and immune systems. Students will learn about various aspects of hematology. The course will focus on red blood cells and their disorders, white blood cells and their disorders, as well as bloodborne infections. The course will also focus on immunological concepts such as transfusions and transplantations. Integrated clinical and biomedical cases are utilized to encourage and enhance interactive learning.
