Catalog description

The Clinical Skills sequence is designed for students to develop skills to deliver excellent patient-centered care as a future physician. Students will learn the fundamental skills of patient assessment by engaging in educational activities that incorporate a variety of teaching modalities and integrate medical knowledge and other clinical competencies learned within the other courses including the biomedical and systems courses, OMM, and Professional Medical Practice courses. Each of the educational components complements each other to provide an innovative, interactive, multifaceted approach to learning. Activities will vary week by week to achieve the desired overall course goals. The Clinical Skills IV course focuses on developing the skills to perform competent and comprehensive ENT, ophthalmologic, pediatric neurology, cranial nerve, and central nervous system exams, as well as a comprehensive psychiatric exam. Students will also learn to perform motivational interviewing.
