Catalog description

Introduction to the finite element (FE) method for engineering applications. This course covers the basic mathematics underlying the FE method and uses commercially-available FE software to solve for the thermomechanical response of solids and structures subjected to initial and boundary conditions. Topics covered include element formulations and assembly methods, solution schemes, error sources, and advanced solid mechanics solutions (e.g., nonlinear problems and dynamic loading).
