Catalog description

The capstone is the culmination of the educational process in mechanical engineering. This course is the first part of a two-semester course that will develop students' ability to synthesize and apply engineering and scientific principles to the development of a solution that addresses a real-world problem. In this phase, student teams interact with their industry or faculty sponsor to determine the design criteria for their project. Students will perform calculations, create CAD models and/or perform finite element simulations during this first semester. Multiple styles of written assignments- ranging from technical briefs to formal reports- will be completed during this term. Initial prototyping will also begin during this first term.
