This teacher-education course covers the foundations of assessment. Measurement and assessment topics include ethics and legal responsibilities; reliability and validity; preliminary, formative, summative, diagnostic, screening, achievement, and standardized assessments. Students will practice using standards and curriculum to design learning outcomes and using assessment results to support learning. This course also provides foundational knowledge specific to certification in special education, including educational law, individualized educational planning, and progress monitoring approaches.
