Catalog description

This course is a study of the theories, practices, content, and resources for the teaching and learning of science in grades 4 through 8. A constructivist philosophy of teaching and learning is modeled through the organization of the learning environment to promote an inquiry approach to science education. Candidates in this course will develop their awareness of reform in science education at the national, state, and local levels and assess the subsequent impact and effects on teachers; examine their personal beliefs and attitudes toward science and the teaching and learning of science in order to develop and refine a personal philosophy of the teaching and learning of science; become teachers of science consistent with the standards as described in the National Science Education Standards.
