Catalog description

This course addresses development and motivational teaching/learning for PreK-4, Middle Level, and Secondary Education. It focuses on major theories and research on the unique developmental characteristics of children and adolescents as they relate to educational practices. Consideration will be given to the cultural contexts in which children live with a particular focus on family, peers, schools, and the larger cultural context. This course will focus on classroom applications of key theoretical principles of learning, motivation, and creating engaging learning environments for children and adolescents. Emphasis will be placed on examination of beliefs about the teaching-learning process and use of theory and research to make effective decisions of teaching practice within developmentally-responsive classroom environments.
