Social Justice in Community-Engaged Settings

This course will focus on the role of social justice in educating a diverse student population. Social justice discourse is introduced as an educational tool that can be used to better understand the correlations between organizational, institutional, and/or social conditions and the widespread inequities in areas of, but not limited to, race, culture, class, gender identity, and sexual orientation that challenge the educational system. This course requires enrollment in LTFL 293, a field placement in an educationally-focused, community-engaged setting and is required of all education majors. Field experiences are completed under professional supervision from the University and from off-campus community organizations. This course is offered in the fall and spring as either a Lecture or Hybrid; and this course is offered in the summers of even years as a Lecture during the Maymester.
