Upper Elementary Numeracy and Literacy Practicum

Catalog description
This practicum is a blend of university-based classroom instruction and field experience in a Grades 3-5 school setting. Teacher candidates gain experience with instructional practices in numeracy and literacy in a local school site. The focus is on instructional planning, instructional practice, and formative evaluation. The course integrates knowledge, skills, dispositions, and field experiences appropriate to content and pedagogy knowledge in upper elementary (Grades 3-5). The course is framed by Pennsylvania State and national professional standards, the Themes and Domains of the Leading Teacher Program, and the particular expertise of the faculty. Candidates are placed in upper elementary grades in a school setting to practice content and pedagogy in numeracy and literacy in collaboration with in service teachers. Candidates will reflect on content and pedagogy knowledge in relation to the practicum experience in an upper elementary school setting. "
