Elective Course Course Requirement: exam As the U.S. Supreme Court?s view of individual rights under the federal Constitution has become less expansive, litigants are turning to state constitutions as alternative sources of rights. The Pennsylvania Constitution has served this function since 1776. This course examines the history, structure, and content of this remarkable document, which has been described as one of the country?s most radical state constitutions. By the end of the semester, students will understand the nature of the Pennsylvania Constitution, its most significant provisions, the extent to which it differs from the U.S. Constitution, and the methods Pennsylvania?s courts use to interpret it. (This is an exam course.)
