Elective Course Course Requirement: paper This course studies the 1983 Code of Canon Law of the Roman Catholic Church and its history. This course begins with the theological and philosophical underpinnings of the 1983 Code. Then it considers the general norms of Canon Law, the canons on the Apostolic See, the hierarchy, religious orders, dioceses, parishes, the sacraments, marriage, annulments, church property, ecclesiastical crimes and church trials. The course also relates canonical norms to the civil law on a comparative basis.
