Catalog description

Prerequisite: Basic Federal Income Taxation; Co-requisite: Estates and Trusts Course Requirement: Paper/Exam Fulfills Concentration Elective: Business Law, Real Property & Estate Planning, Property & Real Estate. This course introduces students to a tax-oriented approach to estate planning. Students will study the various taxes that impact the orderly transmission of property from one generation to the next, as well as selected tax-minimization strategies. Topics covered include the impact of excise taxes, such as gift, estate, inheritance, or generation-skipping taxes, and income taxes on estate planning and strategies for using gifts, inter vivos trusts, and testamentary trusts to minimize taxes. Paper/Exams.
