Elective Course Course Requirement: final paper May Satisfy the Upper Level Writing requirement Entertainment Law is a 2-credit upper-level course focused on legal issues in the various fields in the entertainment industry. The course is taught in a topical format. Students will apply principles drawn from the law of contract, tort, property, and other relevant legal disciplines as they relate to entertainment industry concerns. The impact of technology, statutes and administrative regulations on the creative process will be examined as they affect theatre, film, radio and television, the music industry, authorship and publishing, and other fields of entertainment. The course will also deal with legal issues related to the ways in which entertainment is communicated to audiences: live performance, film and video, live and recorded broadcasting, cable and streaming and other emerging technologies. Course requirements include writing and presenting a minimum 5000-word paper based on original research. The course paper may be used to meet the Upper-Level Writing Requirement, provided that any additional ULWR standards are met, including that the paper must be a minimum of 7500 words.
