Elective Course Course Requirement: exam This course is intended to provide students with an introductory understanding of the main laws that govern or otherwise impact global supply chains. Having lived through the Covid-19 Pandemic, students are likely aware of the impact that the pandemic had on several global supply chains. Students may, for example, recall shortages of hand sanitizer, toilet paper, vaccines, and other consumer goods. Students are often reminded that global supply chains pervade our lives when big events occur, but they may not be familiar the myriad of laws that actually govern or otherwise impact global supply chains day to day. Since the pandemic, courts and legislatures have increasingly focused on global supply chains. Legislatures and regulators have sought to make our supply chains more robust, more sustainable, and more capable of withstanding disruption. Courts have also been asked to address these issues, usually on an ad-hoc basis as they occur. Of course, legislators, regulators and courts have also increasingly focused on ensuring global supply chains are environmentally friendly and ethical. Several bodies of laws impact global supply chains, including contract laws (UCC/CISG), labor laws, cybersecurity laws, securities laws, antitrust laws, criminal laws, and international trade laws to name but a few. This course will allow students to develop familiarity with the main laws governing global supply chains, but is not intended to be exhaustive. This course will not, for example, delve into taxation.
