Elective Course Course Requirement: exam Satisfies Experiential Learning requirement Fulfills Transactional Legal Practice Concentration elective This is a three-credit, simulation course in drafting, negotiating, and construing contracts. The course is practical in nature and encompasses basic contract concepts and the development of the analytical skill of translating a business deal into written contract documents. To that end, it involves the drafting of each part of a contract, beginning with the preamble and ending with the signature line. Matters of clarity and ambiguity are addressed. The lawyer's role as business counselor is explored and will be developed through real commercial transactions. Students will be presented with business transactions, problems that arise in drafting, and problems that arise after the contract has been drafted. Additionally, students will navigate through the language of a contract to set forth a recommended legal course of action for their clients. Students will receive feedback on simulated exercises and assignments and will also have opportunities to engage in self-evaluation, such as comparing their work product to that which can be expected when employed in legal practice. The credits in this course may be used to satisfy the experiential learning requirement.
