Elective Course Course Requirement: Paper This course will introduce students to the legal and policy challenges created by digital technologies from the rise of the personal computer revolution and the nascent internet in the late 20th century through to current times. The course will survey areas of law in which emerging technologies have had the largest impact on legal and policy debates including intellectual property, constitutional issues such as due process and the First Amendment, jurisdictional challenges, privacy and defamation, harmful online conduct (cyberharassment, cyberstalking, cyberbullying, computer hacking), liability of third party service providers for online misconduct, and regulation of digital technologies including online platforms, emerging artificial intelligence concerns, and technologies incorporated into physical products.
