Elective course May satisfy Upper Level Writing requirement Contemporary slavery, termed human trafficking or trafficking in persons for a variety of reasons emerging from intense debate over the past century, is a deeply entrenched and wildly misunderstood legal, public health, and human rights problem. Current U.S. and international law defines labor trafficking and sex trafficking. The 2014 textbook Human Trafficking Law and Policy, the first of its kind, reviews the history and international scope of human trafficking then focuses on US anti-trafficking law. Guest speakers will include a survivor, attorneys assisting survivors, and people harmed by anti-trafficking laws. This class may fulfill the Upper Level Writing Requirement and is taught by a Duquesne Law School alumna who has worked on anti-trafficking initiatives in Washington state, Pennsylvania, and internationally.
