Elective Course Enrollment Limit: 10 Prerequisite: Health Care Law Course Requirement: exam or paper Fulfills Current Concentration Elective: Business Law- Health Care Law Track This course will examine health care fraud and abuse laws from both civil and criminal perspectives. Course emphasis will be placed on the federal Anti-Kickback Statute, Stark Law and False Claims Act, but state law issues will also be considered. In addition to reviewing statutes and regulations, this course will review sanctions and governmental enforcement initiatives. This course will also consider the complexities and challenges that arise in developing and maintaining an effective compliance program for health care providers. Reading and class lectures will be supplemented with sample problems. Students will have the opportunity to hone analytical and writing skills as they apply health care fraud and abuse laws to relevant fact patterns.
