Catalog description

Required for LL.M Bar Track This is the fall semester course in a sequence of two courses required of all students in the Bar Track Curriculum of the LL.M. for Foreign Lawyers program. In the fall semester, emphasis is placed on understanding how to research and find relevant law, how to read and understand statutes and cases, issue identification, problem solving, case analysis and synthesis, effective legal writing style, print-based and online research, and professionalism. A predictive writing assignment will be assigned, leading to the preparation of law-office memoranda and client letter. The professor will confer individually with students on these assignments, and the initial drafts of papers are revised after faculty critiques. Additional shorter research and writing assignments may also be assigned.
