Elective Course Course Requirement: exam or paper Satisfies Upper Level Writing requirement Election Law will provide a working understanding of local, state and national laws and decisions as they affect the electoral process. The history of the right to vote, including past and current voter suppression policies and devices will be part of the focus. Congressional legislative reapportionment will be examined, including current grounds and procedures for challenges to decennial maps and plans. Executive legislative and judicial elections will be examined at each level with emphasis on the problems that confront the practitioner. Legal considerations involved with the planning and administration of political campaigns, including fundraising and ballot access, will be examined from a practitioner's perspective. The roles of special interest groups and lobbyists will be reviewed and legal and ethical pitfalls will be identified.
