Twenty-First Century Terrorism

This course utilizes theoretical and case study approaches for understanding the development of terrorism in the twenty-first century. The course compares and contrasts trends, strategies and tactics of 21st century terrorist organizations, insurgents, and militias, with a focus on how terrorism has developed in tandem with ? and evolved in relation to ? contemporary domestic and global political events. It also adopts a more comprehensive approach to studying terrorism that both challenges conventional wisdom on mainstream theories and ideas and incorporates policy perspectives to understanding the success and failures of counterterrorism and counterinsurgency approaches.
