Catalog description

This course surveys predominant global concerns spanning disparate geographical contexts. Its primary goal is to understand the impact and potential of the forces of globalization in exacerbating or resolving such concerns, respectively. The course utilizes select thematic case studies which examine how "local" cultural and social dynamics of countries and regions have evolved in response to global technological advancement, relevant geopolitical developments, the proliferation of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), as well as the unparalleled diffusion of information as a result of the emergence of new media. The key aim of the course is to educate students on the ways in which societies today have become more interconnected, and the challenges and opportunities this connectivity poses to exacting more peaceful, sustainable outcomes for international relations.
