Catalog description
The main aim of this course is to provide a framework for the understanding of music originating and as performed in the continent of Africa and the African Diaspora. It explores the variety of music of the continent and its diaspora, by focusing on selected musical cultures, the knowledge of which will enable the student to appreciate how social and cultural life are interlaced with music. Ideas and information will be drawn from recordings, videos, readings, lectures, discussions, and in-class performances. Bridges Requirement: Cultural Fluency and Responsiveness (BRCF) & Communication and Creative Expression Competency (BRCC)
