Catalog description

This course will focus on information and historical trends for some of the most important issues and challenges in quality in healthcare and public health settings. This course will provide the knowledge base and introduce the tools required to incorporate quality improvement into an organization?s vision, mission and operations. Topics include definitions of quality in health care using evidence based practice methods, dimensions of quality care and performance (including outcomes, overuse, and underuse), errors and threats to patient safety, service flaws, and forms of waste such as data sources, costs, causes, and remedies. A minimum of two experiential opportunities in long-term care and at the Allegheny County Health Department are incorporated into this course.
