Duquesne University · UGRD · Fall 2026
1 section
Catalog description
Course description: Catholic women in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries were influential in many ways both within the church and within greater society. Almost wholly forgotten in the historical record, many of these women were best-selling authors, promoted societal change, and cultivated religious/spiritual lives that would go on to influence many aspects of modern Catholicism. From an historical lens, this seminar-style course will investigate the thought and influence of both individuals and organized groups of English-speaking Catholic women at a time of great modernization.
