Ideology, Revolution, and Armed Struggle in Palestine and Israel

Catalog description

This course explores the histories of colonialism, settler colonialism, ideological narratives and armed resistance in the context of Palestine and Israel between the late nineteenth century to the present. Starting with the development of a myriad of nationalist, colonial, and religio-nationalist ideologies and claims, the class traces how these came to be understood by Zionist settlers, Palestinian Arabs, and regional and European neighbors and imperial powers. The class de-centers geo-political 'conflict' in order for students to critically analyze the motivations for, and histories of, armed struggle and revolution by multiple actors as part of the processes of state-building in Palestine, the state of Israel, and the occupied territories.
