Introduction to Museums

Catalog description
This course begins with the history and theory of museums as cultural institutions and considers interpretive turns and trends from the nineteenth century to present. Students will learn introductory methodological skills as part of a practice, which include exhibit planning, curation and collections, writing labels, audience engagement, education, and programming. Students will also engage with the Pittsburgh public history community and museum professionals and exercises designed to introduce best practices in the field.
