Catalog description

HCE 746 is a pre-requisite for HCE 747. This Clinical Ethics Rotation consists of supervised placement in a Roman Catholic hospital (UPMC Mercy) in Pittsburgh with reading and discussion concerning clinical ethical issues. A Mentored Apprenticeship occurs insofar as students shadow both ethics pre-consultations and ethics consultations and participate in the Hospital Ethics Committee. Throughout the rotations, seminars, and journals students further develop awareness and practical insight into the impact of Catholic mission and identity on concrete ethical cases. The Rotation requires 150 hours of time. Admission only by prior arrangement with the HCE Director.
