Catalog description

Grant Writing II is a course designed to teach graduate students in the peer review process for grants covering different sectors of research like NIH-style grants (i.e., heavy on mechanism and peer reviews), DOD-style grants (i.e., 2-stage review process by peers and programmatic), and SBIR/Business/Foundation-types of proposals (i.e., outcomes based, including milestones and deliverables). Students will learn about the structure of the review process through simulated grant review panels (e.g., meeting format, review tiers), critique writing and feedback processes according to agency guidelines and use of templates. Written critiques of grants will stress upon alignment with agency goals, formative feedback that is concise, professional, accurate, specific and responsive to the review criteria set by the agency.
