Advanced Pharmaceutics: Pharmaceutical Biotechnology
Duquesne University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This course covers concepts and approaches by which proteins are evaluated and formulated for pharmaceutical purposes. The fundamentals of protein chemistry will be applied in understanding protein denaturation and aggregation; physical degradation of protein drugs will be discussed in the context of structural stability and conformational dynamics. Case studies of recombinant protein therapeutics (e.g. insulin, cytokines, monoclonal antibodies) will be evaluated with respect to physiochemical parameters governing stability. Using primary literature, chemical degradation of pharmaceutical proteins will be examined. Delivery systems for proteins and nucleic acids will be emphasized, with a particular focus on the fabrication and characterization of particulate systems.
