Catalog description
This course builds upon the concepts discussed in GPSC 530, (Foundations of Pharm Sci I). Students entering this course are assumed to be knowledgeable in the following areas and are expected to be able to apply these fundamental concepts: Functional group properties [structural, chemical, physical] organic chemistry, general analytical chemistry, general chemistry including solubility, pH and buffer calculations, basic pharmacology, introductory biochemistry, and basic enzymology. This course will introduce concepts including pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics, enzymes as drug targets, receptors as drug targets, nucleic acids as drug targets, drug discovery design and development, computational drug design, drug formulation and dosage forms.
