Policy, Ethics, and Global Perspectives in Forensic Nursing

Catalog description

This course provides an evidence and population-based rationale for the evolving roles within forensic nursing practice. Students will engage in a rigorous examination of the professional, ethical, legal, cultural, and social factors that influence care for individuals, families and communities affected by violence and crime. The course emphasizes multi-level policy analysis, exploring how legislation shapes practice from local to international contexts. The course includes a comparative study of U.S. and global forensic practice. Participants will also delineate the tension between "caring versus custody" using Foucault's work as a guiding lens. Students will also be able to identify population-level solutions to forensic health problems.
