Recording Studio Ensemble

Catalog description
This class explores the recording studio environment from both sides of the glass, equally as ensemble and production crew. The dynamic of the ensemble being prepared to record the ?cut? and the producers and engineers? strategy to best capture the ?cut? are explored. Students will perform and record three finished multitrack projects. They will also learn the specialized skills needed to become recording studio musicians. Sight-reading of new music, learning different music styles and learning recording techniques for performing musicians as well as improvising and comping. Musicianship techniques for basic tracking as well as overdub will also be included. Each project will be explored from the production standpoint and Producer/Engineering strategies will be discussed to maximize the recording studio experience. The final outcome is four outstanding recording productions, which will be performed live during the radio broadcast at the conclusion of the semester. Prerequisite: audition.
