Retirement Savings and Income Planning
Duquesne University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This course examines the analytical process of planning for retirement and the various savings structures, legal and tax rules, and regulatory considerations in implementing a retirement plan. The retirement needs analysis begins with gathering client data and family circumstances, formulating an asset allocation based on the investment policy statement, projecting alternative retirement outcomes dependent on probabilistic factors, and making recommendations to the client. Financial planning software and statistical analysis support the decision process, and several cases highlight the application of the process. Assessing the types of retirement assets and alternative structures based on risk, time horizon, taxes, client preferences and special needs, and longevity factors complete an organized approach to retirement planning.
