Catalog description

This course combines thorough instruction in film analysis and history with an introduction to discussions of race and racism in a variety of disciplines including sociology, history, cultural studies, and legal studies. Students will engage with major ideas and historical debates regarding cultural representation and equity. In the process, they will learn how to choose and discuss film evidence and understand the social roles attributed to film as an evolving technology.
