Catalog description
The course is designed to examine the toxic effects of chemical substances on humans, on other living species, and on the environment. Practical applications and current issues/topics are presented, using specific chemical substances, such as pesticides, heavy metals, organic solvents, and their vapors. Extrapolation of toxicological data from animals to humans is presented, along with potential concerns when using animal data to predict human responses. The National Research Council (NRC) risk assessment paradigm (hazard identification, dose-response assessment, exposure assessment, and risk characterization) is discussed. Uncertainties in risk assessment are discussed and how they must be addressed by regulators.
