Catalog description

This course will provide students with an overview of the arts and culture of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania. We will begin by learning about the native peoples who lived and continue to live here, about how European colonization changed this region, and about the role the region played in the creation of the United States. As our focus turns to the twentieth century we will examine the artists, writers, and musicians who were shaped by this ?smoky city.?
