Positionality and Social Justice II

Catalog description

This course is designed to immerse students in the exploration of critical theory, the role of positionality, and their intersection with the pursuit of social justice in educational contexts. Within this class, students will examine the ways in which critical theories, such as critical race theory, women of color feminist theories, and queer of color theories, can be applied to understanding and address issues of power, privilege, and oppression in educational settings. Students will explore their own positionality, or the social and cultural factors that shape their perspectives and experiences, and how this influences their approach to social justice initiatives. This course will also investigate practical strategies for implementing critical theory-informed, socially just practices in curriculum, pedagogy, and educational policies.
