Catalog description

This course draws upon previous discussion of inorganic and organic structure and bonding, and applies it to the diverse field of organometallic chemistry. A discussion of the types of ligands that are found in organometallic chemistry and their influence on the structure and properties of these compounds will be discussed, as well as specific reaction pathways for these complexes. Specific examples of the role of organometallic chemistry in bond forming and breaking catalysis will be discussed, particularly related to reactions of interest to the pharmaceutical, agrochemical and petrochemical industry. In addition, spectroscopic methods for the characterization of these species will be presented. Students taking this course should have at minimum successfully completed Organic Chemistry I and II.
